OUR ESTATE

Our vineyards, each with a distinct microclimate and soil profile, contribute unique fruit, blended after harvest to capture the fullest reflection of the diverse terroir and resulting in the balanced elegance of our traditional Brunello

The estate is comprised of vineyards in different areas of Montalcino. A wide diversity in microclimate and terroir gives us the ability to achieve our best expression of Brunello each season, extracting the special characteristics of each parcel and combining them for the optimal end product. The parcels are primarily vinified separately to provide the most flexibility for later blending and aging.

Winemaking

Each vintage reflects the intersection of nature, man and fortune

No set dates determine the progress of the wine from bud to bottle. Instead, the calendar reflects the weather, the condition of the grapes and the ensuing development in the cellar. Good weather, good decisions and good fortune are the critical ingredients for a great wine. Our wines are reflective of their season, their soil and their climate and each tells its own tale of the individual vintage.

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG

Brunello di Montalcino is made exclusively from 100% Sangiovese grapes, a varietal bred specifically for its ability to age long and well. Typically deep garnet in color with aromas of red fruit, chocolate, violet, herbs and earthiness, the Il Palazzone Brunellos are full-bodied with ABV around 13.5-14.5%. The strong smooth tannins and ripe fruit balance juicy acidity to deliver a perfect wine for food pairing, whether drinking young or after some aging.

Le Due Porte Brunello di Montalcino DOCG

This wine is produced with grapes from our vineyard Le Due Porte which surrounds the cellar at 540 metres above sea level. This wine maintains the typical structure of a Brunello vecchio stampo and epitomizes finesse and elegance. Vinified to take advantage of its notable tannins and acidity to evolve beautifully over the next decade and beyond, it is juicy and complex. With only a few vintages in the bottle, this special wine is elegant and distinguished. It drinks well in its youth, while promising to age beautifully.

Rosso, Grappa & EVOO

In addition to our DOCG wines, we also produce Rosso del Palazzone, Grappa and EVOO. Our Rosso del Palazzone, blended with mixed vintages from wine produced 100% Sangiovese, showcases fruit, freshness and approachability. Our grappa is created by Master Distiller Priscilla Occhipinti at Distilleria Nannoni. Our EVOO is cold-pressed from our own trees, harvested by hand after the end of the grape harvest.

Introducing Il Palazzone 595

Cultivation has finally begun on our new, high altitude vineyard! Situated just above the cantina and our cru vineyard, this vineyard enjoys very high altitude - more or less 600 meters above sea level. Il Palazzone 595 reflects our strong conviction that the best way to preserve the elegance and balance of the great wines of Brunello’s past is to go higher.  This vineyard, which 30 years ago was left to go to seed because it was too cold to grow quality Sangiovese, is now coming into its prime.  The landscape design includes three upper terraces with natural stone walls built using the stones excavated from the site itself , and two lower parcels, also reinforced with the same natural stone walls. The west southwest exposures are perfect to take advantage of the afternoon sun and Mediterranean winds. We have planted just under 2.5 hectares, 100% Sangiovese, with clones ranging from the precious BS1 to modern clones researched and designed for the soil, altitude and exposure. An exercise in patience and planning, we expect to harvest the first grapes in 5 years, which means the wines will be in the glass in just 10 short years! We will keep you posted on progress..
